Founded in 1978, the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society is part of the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, University at Albany, State University of New York. Through research, teaching, networking, and public education the Center works to:

  • strenghten women’s public policy leadership;
  • advance equity for women in the workplace;
  • enhance access of women and youth to policy knowledge, skills, and influence;
  • promote collaboration across sectors to strengthen nonprofit management and leadership;
  • inform policy makers and policy activists on issues related to women, children and families.

Current program initiatives include:

  • Fellowship on Women in Public Policy - an intensive leadership development program designed to promote equity and excellence in public service and encourage government to be more responsive to the needs of women, children, families, and communities in New York State.
  • Immigrant Women & State Policy - multi-year initiative to strengthen the voices of immigrant women in New York State’s public policy arena.
  • Liberty Partnerships Rising Stars Program - encourages young women and men in grades 7-12 to achieve academic and personal excellence, obtain their high school diploma, pursue higher education and begin workforce preparation.
  • Tech Valley Civic Forum - bringing together leaders from business, government, nonprofit and education to build the foundation for -- and commitment to -- an inclusive planning process based on the over-arching vision of successful collaboration.
