Sobre Nós

Founded in 1977, the Alameda Food Bank is a non-profit organization that helps Alameda residents in need by providing nourishing food in a compassionate and respectful manner with the support of dedicated volunteers and local partners. The Alameda Food Bank is a private, non-affiliated, non-profit, tax-exempt agency. Board members and virtually all staff are dedicated volunteers from the community.

The Alameda Food Bank (AFB) was started in 1977 by a small group of concerned citizens who began providing emergency food to families in need. Today, nearly 2,100 households visit the AFB regularly. Our programs offer free groceries of non-perishable food, frozen meats, fresh produce, bread, fresh dairy and USDA commodities. We provide groceries at no charge through our three main programs: The Monthly All Choice Pantry Program offers a variety of canned goods, grains, and cereal, USDA food items, meat and other protein items, and a wide selection of bread, dairy, and produce. Our Weekly Perishable Foods Program gives clients weekly access to fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, dairy and deli items. Lastly, our monthly Client Food Selection program allows clients to choose additional non-perishable food items from a rotating list as well as an additional supply of fresh fruits and vegetables. If a client accesses all of our programs, they can get food six times a month.
