    Sobre Nós

We’re a special independent primary school dedicated to preparing Ugandan children for their futures.

Located in the village of Sitabaale, two hours north of Kampala, we are a not-for-profit private school offering quality and affordable education. Our commitment is to teach all students the skills they need to be self-reliant and to give them the opportunity to follow their dreams.

In Uganda there are two types of primary school - universal government schools accessible to all, or for-profit private open only to the fortunate few. We offer a third way.

A UNESCO study found Ugandan children drop out of primary education for three main reasons: lack of lunch money, unpaid teachers and oversized classes. Our approach tackles these challenges.

We charge a small tuition fee each term, in line with what the parents can afford. In return, we supply all meals and school materials. We make sure teachers are paid on time and classes sizes never grow too big.

The school fees charged are not enough to cover costs, so we ask for international donations to make up the difference. In the future, our goal is to be self-sufficient. ?

    Our History

Built in 2008, Tasaaga has been educating Ugandan children for more than a decade. It was built in Sitabaale because there was an urgent need for primary educational facilities in the area. Founded by Bruhan Mubiru, the creation of the school was funded by international donations and built by local workmen working alongside volunteers from across the world. Funding for the school comes from a mixture of school fees and the donations of the charities Tasaaga Primary School Supporters UK and Tasaaga USA.

    Our Present

Every year, the school teaches up to 300 students from the ages of 3 to 13 years old. We focus on teaching the core topics and skills that children require to be self-reliant in life. English, maths, sciences, sex education and computer sciences. We also offer vocational skills like music. In the future, we will add more options, such as tailoring and carpentry, so that all students have more choice for their futures.
