Mountain Cleaners

Company Overview The Mountain Cleaners are a group of volunteers dedicated to cleaning up India, little by little through a combination of direct action, liaison and awareness-raising. Their initial project, which is still ongoing, involves working with the tea shops and guest houses in a beautiful but previously rubbish stricken mountain camp called Triund, a four hour trek from Mcleod Ganj.

Description Triund is just one project, a small manageable initiative that has proved that having a waste system in place is affordable and beneficial. Mountain Cleaners now also collect waste from Guna Temple and have done several clean up hikes to Kareri. The group conducts annual clean up campaigns at the Manimahesh Yatra, has started an education program and holds monthly Children's Days.

General Information Mountain Cleaners have big plans for the upcoming year but need volunteers and funding to make them a success. We offer an interesting and varied volunteer program so please contact us if you’d like to know more. Everyone is welcome but we’d especially like to hear from people who can commit to one month or more.

Mission The Mountain Cleaners believe their model is simple and complete. They are not just about picking up rubbish and cleaning an area temporarily. Instead they want to work alongside government organisations, NGO’s, local people, businesses, tourists and schools to provide sustainable solutions, ensuring rubbish is disposed of correctly and as much of it as possible is reused or recycled.
