Sawmill Museum

Sobre Nós

Once known as the “Lumber Capital of the World,” Clinton, Iowa’s pivotal role in the lumber industry and the expansion of the West makes it ideally suited to host the lumber museum and learning center. The Sawmill Museum features a working sawmill, a model 1888 lumberjack camp that allows kid to experience the life of a lumberjack and play as a lumberjack, regular traveling exhibits, the Struve Mill, and exhibits on the life of a tree from sapling to board and the men who were involved in every stage.

The mission of The Sawmill Museum is to preserve the history of America’s sawmill, lumber, and forestry industries while ensuring its future. As the museum continues to evolve, a continued focus on STEM, conservation, environment, and stewardship will be incorporated. The Sawmill Museum strives to be a national leader for the interpretation and exploration of our country’s lumber history. The Museum will serve as a resource for learning, dialogue, preservation, and research and will offer balanced opportunities and voices for industry, government, and private groups and citizens alike.
