Blue Ocean Institute

Blue Ocean Institute works to inspire a closer relationship with the sea through science, art, and literature. We develop conservation solutions that are compassionate to people as well as to ocean wildlife, and we share reliable information that enlightens personal choices, instills hope, and helps restore living abundance in the ocean. Our programs are integrated at multiple levels and include From Sea to Table (seafood research, publications, and Schooling Chefs) and Safe Seas for sea turtles and seabirds (helping to develop new techniques to reduce bycatch, and working at the community level and training fishermen). The foundation of all our work is instilling a Sea Ethic—nurturing people’s relationship with the ocean. Through our writings and public speaking we explore and guide the larger questions on the trajectory of our oceans and people’s shifting values toward life on Earth.
