Take Stock in Children (TSIC), a statewide Mentor/Scholarship program is to end the cycle of poverty through education by providing deserving, financially at-risk students the opportunity to earn a college scholarship. Many students have great potential but do not have the support at home and are sometimes overlooked in our school systems to achieve their best. What sets this early intervention program apart from others is: extensive support, motivation and accountability, along with the dollar for dollar match provided by the State of Florida. Over 26,000 students throughout the state of Florida have earned a college scholarship through the TSIC program. Since 1996 in Lake and Sumter Counties TSIC participants include 5 students who have earned their PhD, 17 students who have earned their masters degrees, 245 students who have earned a college degree, 242 who are currently enrolled in college and 188 high school students who are beginning their journey.
