Twin Cites Cohousing Network (TCCN) began when we brought in nationally recognized speaker Charles (Chuck) Durrett to talk about the ideas of cohousing presented in his book "Creating Cohousing; Building Sustainable Communities" in 2016. The Intro to the book is written by the Environmentalist Bill McKibben, the founder of the group 350.org.
"In 2015 the Meals on Wheels Program drove over 8 million miles to deliver meals to those who needed it. Not one of those miles were to a cohousing community. That is because when someone is in need in one of our communities, it is that person's neighbors who look after them."
Potluck gatherings are done 4 times per year to simulate the shared meals that are part of life in the Common House that is a center piece of each cohousing community. We attempt to link like minded people together to form what is called a "core group", a group that works to actually build a cohousing community. To this point, we have three such groups that we are supporting.
With all this in mind, our further goal is to help create 10 cohousing communities in the next 10 years. Ten communities that help people reconnect with their neighbors. Ten communities that use less fossil fuels and have a smaller carbon footprint.
