Sobre Nós

The Rothko Chapel is a sacred space open to all to provide a place of worship, meditation, and prayer for persons of all faiths; to provide a forum for people to gather and explore spiritual bonds in common to all; to discuss human problems of worldwide interest; and to share a spiritual experience, each loyal to his or her belief, each respectful of the beliefs of others.

The Rothko Chapel, founded by John and Dominique de Menil, was dedicated in 1971 as an intimate sanctuary available to people of every belief. A modern meditative environment inspired by the mural canvasses of American abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, the Chapel is recognized as one of the greatest artistic achievements of the twentieth century. In 2000 it was listed in the United States National Register of Historic Places. The Chapel presents a variety of public programs centered around spirituality, arts and culture, and human rights, and hosts religious services from all faith traditions.
