Kansas Dietetic Association (KDA) is the state's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals. It is one of 53 affiliates of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), formerly the American Dietetic Association. Founded in 1938, KDA is committed to improving the health of Kansans and supporting the profession of dietetics. Registered Dietitians (RDs) and Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR's) are leaders and experts in the field of food and nutrition, engaging in research, education and advocacy to promote ethical and science-based nutrition and dietetic policy, practice and standards.

Dietetics is the integration, application and communication of principles derived from food, nutrition, social, business and basic sciences, to achieve and maintain optimal nutrition status of individuals through the development, provision and management of effective food and nutrition services in a variety of settings.
