    Founded in 1958 and operated continuously since, the volunteer-driven Hemophilia Foundation of Northern California (HFNC) is a non-profit organization serving the needs of people with hemophilia and other bleeding disorders. It strives to improve the quality of life of all those affected through education, direct service and the promotion and support of research.

    Nationally recognized for the quality of its services to the bleeding disorder community, HFNC has grown to operate nine key programs each year: 1) Camp Hemotion, a model weeklong residential summer camp serving young people ages 7-20 living with bleeding disorders, known carriers, and their siblings, 2) An Annual Family Camp providing families living with bleeding disorders an opportunity to network and meet others dealing with similar issues, 3) A Family Information Day - a one-day educational symposium designed to educate about developments in the treatment of bleeding disorders and financial/life issues associated with dealing with them 4) An Emergency Assistance Program which makes small ($500) grants to people living with bleeding disorders to cover basic life necessities such as rent, food, utilities etc. in times of economic hardship, 5) Annual Holiday Gatherings that bring together a wide array of families living with bleeding disorders for holiday festivities, resource sharing and, importantly, a small amount of support in the form of gifts for the children, 6) HFNC's quarterly newsletter which is filled with relevant information to community members about Foundation activities, treatment advances, available resources etc. 7) A resource and referral service that provides newly-diagnosed patients with a comprehensive and award-winning HFNC Resource Manual filled with useful information and strategies to most effectively manage their disease and 8) a Youth Program that brings affected Bay Area youth together for periodic gathering focused on recreation, education and peer-bonding and 9) Women's/Men's Groups that provide an opportunity for the support that comes from socializing with people facing the same or similar significant challenges as well as for education about available resources.
