The Georgia Latino Alliance for Human Rights (GLAHR) is a statewide organization that educates and organizes Latinos in their own communities regarding laws and customs that impact their daily survival in the United States. GLAHR was founded by Adelina Nicholls, and Theodoro Maus in 1999 and started as an informal group responding to immigrant conditions in GA. The organization incorporated in . Today, GLAHR utilizes community organizing as a tool to develop grassroots leadership in different Latino immigrant communities in GA. We work in both the Atlanta Metro area but we also work with many rural Latino communities. Through our leadership development workshops, individuals learn to advocate on their own behalf. We also believe it is important to raise awareness; we share information so that community members can make informed decisions and take action in defense of their civil and human rights. Overall, we create a space for the empowerment of low-income Latinos, regardless of immigration status. We also strive to create and encourage a coordinated effort between the Latino community and other non-Latino leaders and community organizations in the search for the social justice & well-being of marginalized and exploited communities.
