Sobre Nós

The purpose of the HIV Center for Women and Children at SUNY Downstate Medical Center is to coordinate all HIV-related programs at SUNY Downstate, Kings County Hospital Center (Downstate’s municipal affiliate), and Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center. HIV Center activities are governed by an executive board consisting of the directors/principal investigators of multiple HIV-related projects at these institutions. The Special Treatment and Research (STAR) Program is the umbrella organizational structure for an integrated HIV clinical, mental health, psychosocial, educational and research program at SUNY Downstate. The STAR Program is a multi-departmental effort comprising multiple projects within the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Medicine (Infectious Disease Division), and Preventive Medicine & Community Health. The STAR Program’s goal is to provide comprehensive and coordinated care, prevention services and research to adults with and at risk for HIV disease. The STAR Program is one of several constituent programs of The HIV Center for Women and Children. Jack A. DeHovitz, MD, MPH, Professor of Preventive Medicine and Community Health and Medicine, serves as director of both the STAR Program and the HIV Center.
