Cedar Riverside Adult Education Programs

The Cedar Riverside Plaza was built in the 1970s as an urban renewal project east of downtown Minneapolis. It was originally conceived of as a mixed income community; however, these plans were never actualized. Now these high-rise apartments fill the most densely populated city block in the state and it is estimated that 70% of its residents live at or below federal poverty levels. Its resident immigrants, refugees, native-English-speaking people, and other people of color face multiple and interconnected socioeconomic, educational, cultural, and daily-life challenges. The Cedar Riverside Adult Education Programs are housed directly in this center and work to offer English Language Learning (ELL), computer skills, citizenship, and basic math classes to residents of this area.
