Memphis PREP Program gives promising Memphis City Schools students a means to meet their potential—removing the financial barrier that inhibits access to summer opportunities. Since 1969, we have been extending access to high-quality summer academic enrichment programs to rising juniors and seniors, helping to bridge the opportunity gap for Memphis City Schools students. Memphis PREP has grown from serving one high school in 1969 to 27 schools and 113 students in the summer of 2008. In 2007, the program became an independent 501(c)(3) organization. For forty years we have seen that participation in these summer programs directly affects the future goals, opportunities, and college matriculation of Memphis’ most promising students, whose finances would have otherwise severely limited their access to such enrichment.
