La Esperanza Granada

Located in Granada, Nicaragua, La Esperanza Granada is a non-profit organization with a primary focus on creating opportunities for children through education. ‘Born’ in 2002, we started in one small village and now provide learning opportunities to more than 2,000 underprivileged children living in Granada.

In recent years La Esperanza has been challenged by a decline in tourism in Nicaragua. This began in 2018, when the political situation in Nicaragua became complicated. Although the political situation is now stable, the coronavirus crisis has damaged tourism further. Despite this, La Esperanza has persisted. The staff and the children here are extremely excited to be opening our doors again to our international volunteers!

Typically, volunteers will be working in our learning centers. These are located around Granada and are open in the afternoons where they're transformed into hubs of educational activities for younger children. Volunteers assist the children in areas such as Math, Art, Spanish, Computing and English classes. We also offer internships, contact us for more information.

We ask each volunteer to make an initial contribution of US$50 towards administration costs. All donations go directly towards supporting the learning centers and other projects. In return, you will receive two La Esperanza Granada t-shirts free to wear when you are working with us. There are no additional fees involved with volunteering at La Esperanza Granada. Volunteers must fund their own living costs, however Nicaragua is an extremely affordable country to live in and we’re happy to give suggestions with hostels / homestays.

Nicaragua is a beautiful country with an endless list of activities for volunteers to enjoy. Granada itself has iconic colonial architecture and there are numerous volcanoes in the vicinity. The beach is never far away. There’s safe and accessible transport service within Granada and connecting it to surrounding areas. While Nicaragua has no official Covid restrictions, citizens generally follow Covid safety protocols.
