The Gross Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Ramapo College

Sobre Nós

Mission

Our mission is to assist students, educators, and the community-at-large in learning the history and lessons of the Holocaust, the Armenian Genocide, and other similar tragedies. Through innovative educational programming we seek to promote an understanding of the pernicious consequences of anti-Semitism, racism, ethnic hatred, other forms of bigotry, and violations of human rights; and forge awareness, change attitudes, and develop new methodologies for the protection of individual liberty and the prevention of genocide.

History

The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies was created in 1980. Located on the Ramapo College campus since its inception, it became a part of Ramapo College in 2001. In July 2014, it was named The Gross Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies to recognize the generous ongoing support of the Gross Foundation. The Center fulfills its mission through its educational offerings (teacher workshops, public lectures, college courses, student programs, film screenings, video testimony project, a speakers’ bureau and in-service presentations) to reach people of all ages.

Although largely privately funded, in various ways it also receives support from Ramapo College. The Center is a member of the Association of Holocaust Organizations and is part of a network of similar organizations under the New Jersey State Commission on Holocaust Education.
