Union de Vecinos is  a grassroots community based organization that promotes civic participation, democracy, and the development of community power in Boyle Heights (East LA) and the City of Maywood. Our members represent all sectors of our community: tenants, homeowners, families, youth, seniors, immigrants, low income families, working class families, and small business owners.  Union de Vecinos started in 1996 fighting against the demolition  of the Pico Aliso public housing projects.  We have grown to an organization of Neighborhood  Committees promoting economic and environmental justice,  civic engagement,  affordable housing, and building healthy and stable community neighborhoods. We do this through community organizing, popular education and direct action.
