Somos Amigos of NNM was brought into being by a group of dedicated people to serve low to no income residents of the Espanola Valley by making health and safety related home repairs to their residences. Our Executive Director, Inez Leibman, handles the administration of the program, David Canfield our Construction Supervisor along with skilled volunteer labor do the home repairs. We aim to bring the people of Los Alamos and Espanola Valley together to address the home repair needs of low-income residents in the Valley, such as building ramps for disabled access, repairing floors, plumbing, water damage, broken windows, low threshold tub installation and so on. We work through various referring agencies in the area to find clients, including United Way of Northern New Mexico, Self Help, Habitat for Humanity, and others. We serve mainly elderly and disabled people, and help them stay in their own homes instead of having to move to an institution, giving them more independence, security and confidence. We are entirely grant and donation funded.
