Naru Guatemala

Asociacion Narú exists to improve the health and wellbeing of Q’eqchi’ Maya families living in rural Alta Verapaz, Guatemala. Narú works with families living in extreme poverty in a remote mountainous region. In 2017, nearly 700 children from 143 communities were helped out of severe malnutrition while receiving training in its prevention.

We facilitate a number of health, nutritional and educational programs in the remote village of Senahu, designed to assist local indigenous families in breaking the cycle of poverty through better health practices.

The centre provides urgent medical care to children suffering life threatening conditions caused by malnutrition.

The focus of Naru is on helping the family to help the child. Families with malnourished children can enroll in the nutrition program that serves to bring the child out of fatal undernourishment, while providing practical knowledge and education to the parents and families so that they may provide healthy and sustainable care to their children in the future.

Naru has also been involved in building and water projects; providing essential infrastructure to remote locations that otherwise have no support.
