This is a grass-roots project that was set up to give independent travelers the opportunity to volunteer at low-cost in some of Petén's more rural and seldom-visited communities.Volunteers will be working with the town hall, helping on community projects in Las Cruces and surrounding areas. They will be working with the Women's Office (Oficina Municipal de la Mujer), a department created to promote women's rights, change discriminatory attitudes and provide the help needed to create a society in which there is gender equality.
