Community Nursery School

Community Nursery School is a cooperative preschool located in Lexington, MA, with a developmental and constructivist approach to early education.

Children are seen as unique and competent individuals who come to school to share and explore their world through authentic interactions with one another, intentional provocations, and ongoing investigations.

Supported by warm, inviting teachers and parent collaborators, children are empowered to inquire, explore, and develop social and school skills essential to future academic and social success.

Some of the overarching themes that have carried CNS for over sixty-five years include a deep respect for children and their families and the importance of building community.

Over the past decade, we have learned about the early childhood programs in the cities of Reggio Emilia and Pistoia, Italy. They are renowned for their collaborative and aesthetically beautiful learning environments where their values are strengthened through community dialogue and a commitment to continued growth on the part of all members. We consider the Reggio schools to be a beacon, inspiring us with a deep sense of possibility for the growth of our own school and community.
