Sobre Nós

The Scottdale Child Development and Family Resource Center, Inc., (SCDFRC) of Central DeKalb was founded in 1977 as a child development center within the Tobie Grant public housing community in Scottdale, Georgia, for residents who struggle to find affordable, quality child care. Their need was discussed during a community improvement project, and as a result, a child development center was created. The center's first home was modest--1,710 square feet in two, converted public housing apartments--and a transition to a larger, independent space began in 1995 when SCDFRC received accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), whose accreditation is a nationally recognized indicator of a high-quality, early learning center. In 1996, SCDFRC moved to a larger facility to better sustain its program and to begin providing family support services, including parent education . When the center built a larger facility (10,000 square feet) in 1996 (the result of a 10-year, $1 million plus capital campaign), the Scottdale Family Resource Center became an official program.

The vision at SCDFRC is to be the leading family supportive early care and education program in Metro Atlanta that advocates for all children. SCDFRC's four program goals, which are rooted in the organization's vision and mission, are to:

1) increase the rate of four-year-old children ready to enter kindergarten;

2) increase awareness of teen pregnancy and absentee father issues;

3) increase the rate of access to education, housing, jobs, and child care among low- to moderate-income families in Scottdale/central DeKalb County; and

4) increase knowledge of how to access information and resources among multicultural families.

Scottdale has thrived for more than 32 years serving and advocating for ethnically, racially and economically diverse children and families. While diversity and inclusion have been central elements of Scottdale's winning formula, Scottdale has also leveraged organizational collaboration and strategic planning to creatively meet children and families' total development needs with vibrant, high quality, evidence-informed services and supports, always at a reasonable cost and with a generous measure of personal touch and warmth.
