  • Missão

    To preserve the historic Oak Hill Cemetery, a nineteenth century romantic garden park cemetery, and its historic internment sites, structures and records.

    Sobre Nós

    The Foundation was incorporated in 2008 to preserve, restore and beautify the historic cemetery, which was designed by nineteenth century architect and designer, Andrew Jackson Downing. It is a publicly accessible part of the Community of Georgetown and City of Washington and is open 7 days a week. The preservation efforts include, numerous historic interment sites accessible for study of US History and the historic non-sectarian Chapel designed by James Renwick, Jr., noted nineteenth century architect and designer (designer of the Smithsonian Institution Castle, the St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, the Corcoran Gallery and the historic Iron Fence Along R Street in Georgetown, Washington, DC). The historic Renwick Chapel is listed i nthe National Register of Historic Places. It is the Foundation's mission to also preserve the cemetery's records which commenced in 1849 and are a community genealogical source and embody significant history of the Georgetown Community and the City of Washington.
