Goals:
To hold educational drills and simulations that allow the hospital staff to better understand practice gaps and changes that need to be implemented to provide the best care for the most people. We also want to have the opportunity for the community to be involved in our learning opportunities so that community members better understand our practice processes.
Purpose:
These exercises will be conducted in a controlled environment for all participants to safely participate in order to identify gaps and areas of improvement needed. As such, no participant shall be reprimanded or penalized for their efforts during the exercise. This is a learning experience that will allow us to establish an internal baseline of improvement for the University of Utah Emergency Department (UUH ED), Surgery and other support service departments including the testing of communication and collaboration between these service lines. Additionally, we will test existing plans, processes, supplies, other resources, equipment and staff knowledge. This training exercise will help us better understand how we can improve and protect those we serve (i.e., patients, visitors, vendors, students, staff and employees) within our health care environment.
