Operation Jump Start

The mission of Operation Jump Start is to help low-resourced, high potential first-generation students get in, stay in, and graduate from a four-year college. We do this by providing academic support, mentoring, and exposure to a broader world.

We provide the comprehensive resources and mentoring needed to enable youth in underserved communities to reach their potential through a college education. In pursuit of its mission, OJS provides individualized mentoring, enrichment programs, and other support services to Long Beach area students beginning in the eighth grade and continuing on through high school. The one-on-one mentoring relationships and expansive array of activities have proven successful in helping OJS scholars succeed - so much so that among program graduates, 98% go on to college - 85% to a four-year university or college.

Graduates in college are supported through the College Success program, a case management program designed to empower their success with higher education.
