The Trust for the Americas is a not for profit 501(c)(3) organization affiliated with the Organization of American States (OAS) and was established in 1997 to promote private and public sector participation in projects that reflect the main goals of the OAS. The mission of the Trust is to execute capacity building program, both for individuals and organizations. The Trust implements its programs through local partner organizations, with support from over 200 public and private sector partners in more than 20 countries throughout the Latin America and the Caribbean. The Trust’s programs are carried out in the following areas:

• Information Communications Technology for Development; • Freedom of Expression, Access to Information and Excellence in Journalism; • Promoting a Culture of Labor Rights Compliance; and • Peace and Reconciliation.

The Trust is headquartered at the OAS in Washington, D.C. and also has a legal presence in Colombia and Mexico, with a local office in Bogota, Colombia to manage its numerous programs in the region.

The Board of Directors is comprised of members from several different sectors, including the Secretary General of the OAS and executives from major companies throughout the hemisphere, including: CEMEX; Chevron; Chrysler LLC; COPA Airlines; ENSE Group; Manatt, Phelp & Phillips, LLP; Microsoft; Organización Ardila Lülle and Siemens.
