Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk

Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS) exists to assist survivors of domestic violence, rape, and sexual assault; to prevent the incidence of these crimes through education; and to raise community awareness of the need for justice and compassion for victims. We view these crimes as various threads in a fabric of abuse: they are crimes primarily against women and their children, crimes in which violence or the threat of violence are used to exert power or control, crimes which have traditionally been a source of deep shame for the victims

A private, non profit, community based agency which is the only rape crisis center in Suffolk County. VIBS provides the following services: a 24 Hour Hotline, (631) 360-3606, free, confidential counseling for children and adults, legal advocacy and court accompaniment, elder abuse and batterer's intervention services, community education and prevention, and volunteer programs which include Emergency Room Companions who assist survivors of domestic or sexual violence in the emergency rooms of local hospitals, Speaker's Bureau volunteers who provide community education, and clerical and child care volunteers
