Safety Networks for Abused Animals and People - Chicago

  • Sobre Nós

SNAAP-Chicago is a sister project to the original SNAAP, founded by Blair Warner and Erin Hughes, in January 2011 in Washington, DC. Addressing the intersection between animal abuse and domestic violence, SNAAP-Chicago plans to partner with local animal protection services to provide temporary housing options for the pets of domestic violence victims who seek help.

SNAAP-Chicago plans to encourage domestic violence responders and service providers to be more conscious of the prevalence of animal abuse in domestic violence and its role in a victim's decision to escape or to stay and protect a beloved pet.

In time, SNAAP-Chicago hopes to encourage existing domestic violence shelters to accept pets, and to establish its own network of foster homes to supplement existing networks.
