Foundation Territorio e Identidad

The Foundation “Territorio e Identidad” was created on July 17 2008 in Quito-Ecuador and recognized by CODENPE (Development Agency for the Indigenous Nations of Ecuador). The foundation is focused on projects relating to climate change, preserving biodiversity, women’s rights, education of indigenous children and children from the southern-most part of Quito, and safety net services for seniors.

Our approach is to transparently and honestly work together as a team with indigenous peoples and the community at large equipping each group to achieve a better quality of life. Since the foundation’s inception we have: • Organized local meetings with kichwa indigenous communities to show forest maps, the expansion of the agriculture and climate change effects in the communities. • We hosted the Latin America indigenous people’s regional workshop on Protected Areas in preparation for the Barcelona IUCN Congress in 2009. • The last summer in 2011 we began a project called “Free English Immersion classes for children” This project is focused on indigenous children and children who live in the southern part of Quito. The project has been executed through the support of a sister elementary school in Silver Spring, Maryland.

MISSION The mission of the Foundation “Territorio e identidad” is to support and strength the abilities of the indigenous communities in sustainable forest management and biodiversity, creating capabilities in topics of: gender, social equity, leadership and human rights.
