Project Extra Mile is a nationally recognized organization founded in 1995 addressing excessive alcohol consumption through the public health model using science-based environmental prevention strategies. The long-standing effort relies heavily on community organizing, strong leadership and solid relationships. Areas of focus include policy initiatives (as established, for instance, in the Community Preventive Services Task Force recommendations to reducing excessive alcohol consumption), enforcement collaborations, media advocacy, education and awareness and youth leadership.

Project Extra Mile has an active coalition in the Omaha metro area and provides training, technical assistance, and support to other coalitions, organizations, and communities across the state. The mission of Project Extra Mile is to advocate for evidence-based policies and practices to prevent and reduce alcohol-related harms. More information can be found at projectextramile.org.

Project Extra Mile has been recognized through awards from the National Commission Against Drunk Driving, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, the Public Health Association of Nebraska, Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America and The National Safety Council, Greater Omaha Chapter.
