Sobre Nós

NAFI’s operations in Virginia are part of the larger NAFI Mid-Atlantic Region which combines services in both Virginia and Maryland. Since its inception in 1988, the NAFI Mid-Atlantic Region has been providing cutting edge services that are designed to address the needs of youth and families and enhance the safety of communities. The NAFI Mid-Atlantic Region has proven to be instrumental to the success of the youth, families, and communities we serve and responsive to assessed needs from state-agencies. NAFI has provided decades of successful and creative service to youth in residential care who are involved with the juvenile justice system in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Today, NAFI Mid-Atlantic’s focus in Virginia continues to be on providing well-rounded service options to support youth in the least restrictive environment possible. Our shelters are designed to manage crisis and reimmerse youth back into their communities, where appropriate. Our programs operate on person-centered principles with overall goals focused on measurable efforts to minimize disruptive episodes (hospitalizations, youthful offending, absences from school, and lengthy out-of-home placements) and maximize the use of natural, community-based care to attain our goals of keeping families in tact, where possible, and minimizing recidivism. We are always striving to employ evidence based models to proactively preserve families prior to youth placement as well as to support reunification.

The Loudoun County Youth Shelter Program, located in Leesburg, Virginia, provides respite for youth in crisis and transition. The Shelter operates twenty-four hours a day, three hundred sixty-five days per year. The Shelter provides group and individual counseling; medical and mental health services; substance assessment; recreation and physical fitness;community service opportunities; and family work. Counselors prepare youth to recieve assistance from other community resources, as they move through this transitional period of their lives.
