At AseraCare Hospice we believe in replacing pain with comfort, replacing exhausting tests with meaningful conversations, and replacing time in hospitals with time at home. Ask any of our patients, and they will likely tell you the volunteers who visit them touch their hearts. If you have a passion for caring for others and are looking for a way to make a difference in people's lives, consider becoming a hospice volunteer. There are many activities for volunteers to choose to do. From reading at a patient's bedside, knitting lap blankets, running errands, providing pet therapy or helping with administrative duties- there are a wide range of possibilities. Common volunteer activities often include: activities with patients, like reading and writing letters, playing games, participating in pet therapy, scrapbooking or other crafts-just plain companionship. Providing emotional support for the patient- and the family- such as providing breaks for the family and friend caregivers, making spiritual prayer calls, attending funerals and memorial services and offering companionship to loved ones. We also have volunteers that make crafts and baked goods for the patients.
