Partners in Education - Roatan

Partners in Education - Roatan is creating E-Learning Centers throughout our island. Currently only 1 in 4 children attend school, and only 13% complete high school. We have only 167 classrooms to serve 32,500 children. We are creating Explorer Centers which are small community-based, bilingual (English-Spanish) internet centers with libraries throughout the island. These Explorer Centers with internet and educational software, as well as exciting activities, will attract our "fringe" children not attending school and develop their reading, math, and science skills. Each center will have a director, but will need a core of volunteers to provide individual help to children. These centers will also be a homework and research center for children in school, as well as provide tutoring. PArents and teachers will be encouraged to use the centers as well, and an adult program is planned.
