Ignatian Volunteer Corps - San Diego

Founded in 1995, the Ignatian Volunteer Corps (IVC) provides opportunities for men and women, most age 50 and older, to use their skills, talents, and life experiences to serve poor communities in need. Members of this Jesuit-affiliated program commit to volunteering 1 or 2 days per week (300-600 hours per year), generally September through June, and participate in IVC's unique spiritual reflection program, rooted in the Jesuit tradition of Ignatian spirituality.

Now in its 12th year, IVC San Diego is a vibrant, growing program with more than 50 volunteers serving at 30+ secular and faith-based organizations across the greater San Diego area. Areas of service include mentoring to, and advocacy for, refugees, immigrants, and low income workers; tutoring children at-risk; legal assistance to people who are homeless; support services for pregnant women and young children; chaplaincy ministry to teens and homeless; transborder outreach; grant writing; companion to lonely elderly; prison ministry; case management; healthcare and counseling; project support for low income women; food resource center distribution, and more.
