Why Nepal?

Nepal is one of the most beautiful, culturally rich and welcoming countries in the world. Nepal is very rich in diversity where temperature and culture differ every minute of distance. The government is frequently unable to provide adequate education and health facilities throughout the country and both urban and rural areas are forced to live without the necessary resources to promote the growth and development of their communities:

• 42% of the population live below the poverty line on less than $240 a year
• 15,000 orphans are living on Kathmandu's streets
• 42% of the population of Nepal are unemployed
• 51% illiteracy rate throughout Nepal

• 54% of Nepali children are malnourished

SUSTAINABLE Way of Travelling:

Sustainable Tourism is a way of travelling and exploring a destination while respecting its culture, environment, and people. Sustainability or sustainable practice in tourism has expanded exponentially.

According to UNWTO ; Sustainable tourism is, “Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, and the environment and host communities”.

Making optimal use of environmental resources that constitute a key element in tourism development, maintaining essential ecological processes and helping to conserve natural heritage and biodiversity. Respecting the socio-cultural authenticity of host communities, conserve their built and living cultural heritage and traditional values, and contribute to inter-cultural understanding and tolerance. Ensuring viable, long-term economic operations, providing socio-economic benefits to all stakeholders that are fairly distributed, including stable employment and income-earning opportunities and social services to host communities, and contributing to poverty alleviation.

The National Tourism Policy of countries guides the governance and operations of the tourism sector. The national priorities are clear and aligned to the economic and social interests of the country. A country is a signatory of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) aligns the policies to meet the development metrics of the goals. The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), comprising 169 SDG targets, set up by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 2015 and to be achieved by 2030, expects the country level policy making to respond to the development goals. Out of these 17 SDGs, 3 SDGs namely SDG-8, SDG-12, and SDG-14 are specific to sustainable tourism. In addition, SDG-9, SDG-11, and SDG-13 (Figure -2) are very influential goals for the sustainable tourism sector. This strengthens the idea for the introduction of sustainable policies and practices in tourism for a better-paced and more inclusive growth of this massive sector.

The conceptual and policy understanding of Sustainable Tourism varies from country to country based on the social, economic, cultural, environmental, and ecological mapping of the country. Influenced by such factors and national priorities, the policy of the country emphasizes the responsibility of the tourists to adapt to infallible practices which improve the well-being of host communities, leaving a positive impact on culture and heritage while generating substantial economic benefits. Sustainable Tourism is closely associated with the concepts of responsible tourism, Eco-tourism, and community-based tourism.
