The University of Chicago Urban Teacher Education Program (Chicago UTEP) is a two-year master's degree program that recruits and prepares candidates with strong undergraduate backgrounds and a commitment to educational equity to teach in underserved urban public schools. Our particular emphasis is preparing elementary teachers and secondary mathematics and biology teachers for the Chicago Public Schools.
UTEP distinguishes itself most notably from traditional and alternative certification programs by providing more than one year of student teaching experience and giving graduates three years of induction support. Additionally, financial support for students who go on to teach in Chicago Public Schools are available to eligible candidates.
