World Computer Exchange

WCE is dedicated to helping the world's poorest youth bridge the global divides in information, technology and understanding. WCE does this by keeping donated computers out of landfills and giving them new life connecting youth in developing countries to the Internet. The donated computers are collected by volunteers in cities in the US and Canada. The equipment is refurbished and loaded with free educational content that can be used when the Internet is unavailable. WCE also sends teams of volunteers for two weeks to help some of our partner organizations network the computers in a lab or train teachers on how to best use computers in the classroom. Other services WCE provides include professional development consulting to nonprofit and government partners to develop sustainable plans to raise funds to network, maintain, and connect these computers. We are looking for funding for two new projects in 2014/15: 1)our Computers for Girls initiative to develop an online project with teachers in 7 countries that encourages girls to stay in school and study science, technology and math, and 2) establishing new chapters within several countries in Africa to collect and refurbish computers donated by local companies for the use in local schools.
