Windy Knoll Memorial Sanctuary

Windy Knoll Memorial Sanctuary is a non-profit organization (501c13) providing a Green Burial option in Central Kentucky. We are located in Anderson County, centrally located between Lexington and Louisville. As we have no paid staff, we rely on volunteers to help with this mission. We are currently seeking volunteers to assist with burial activities as well as general upkeep of the cemetery. If you are interested, we would love for you to join us!

Natural burial lets our bodies return to the earth and decompose naturally. We will avoid toxic chemicals, concrete vaults, and metal coffins. We will use low-lying grave markers and aim to maintain the cemetery as a native prairie. People visiting our grave sites will feel that they’re in a natural Kentucky meadow.

Family and friends will be welcome to take part in as much of the burial process as they wish. They will be invited to carry and lower the body into the grave, to help gather wildflowers for bouquets, and even to help refill the grave. This participation can provide much-needed closure. We will assist and advise as much as needed.
