St. Luke’s Hospital was founded October 18, 1846 by the Reverend William Augustus Muhlenberg, pastor of the Church of the Holy Communion. In 1979 St. Luke's merged operations with Roosevelt Hospital and in 2013, Continuum Health Partners, parent company of St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, merged with The Mount Sinai Hospital, creating the Mount Sinai Health System. 


Mount Sinai St. Luke's is a 500-bed, full-service community and tertiary care hospitals serving New York City’s Midtown West, Upper West Side and parts of Harlem. Specialties include orthopedics, emergency medicine, cardiology, and bariatric surgery, among others. St. Luke’s places a strong emphasis on responding with compassion and sensitivity to the unique needs of the communities they serve. 


The Volunteer Services department's mission is to provide Mount Sinai St. Luke’s with highly competent and qualified volunteers who consistently provide excellent services to our patients to enhance the mission of the Hospital. It is the philosophy of the Department to provide the Hospital with volunteers who are committed to enhancing the patient experience.
