    Descrição

Crew Guide (Mentor) for Emerging Adults

This listing is a call for volunteers for the NYC Hub (based out of the City College of New York).

The EGD Collective is seeking volunteer Crew Guides to mentor emerging adults (ages ~18–29) as they navigate college, early career, and identity development (programming starting August 28th, 2026).

Crew Guides are mentors and facilitators who help small groups (“crews”) build confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of belonging. Through weekly meetings, ongoing mentorship, and project-based experiences, Guides support members in developing the habits and self-direction needed to succeed in school, work, and life.

If you ever were involved in scouting, you'll love it here!

    What You’ll Do

    • Facilitate weekly small-group meetings with a co-guide (typically 6–20 members)
    • Mentor emerging adults through academic, personal, and professional challenges
    • Support project-based learning, including creative, leadership, or career-focused work
    • Encourage accountability and follow-through while fostering independence
    • Help build an inclusive, respectful, and psychologically safe group environment
    • Participate in basic training and ongoing check-ins with program leadership

    Who You Are

We are centered around games and other forms of entertainment, technology, and the arts. However you do not need to be a gamer to volunteer with us! You also need no formal experience mentoring, though it of course is helpful.

    We welcome:

    • Adults 25+ who are working professionals in games, art, media, technology, and related fields, or are college faculty/staff
    • Adults 30+ with an associate’s degree or higher who are interested in mentoring emerging adults

Because this role involves mentoring individuals navigating early adulthood, Guides must be at least 4 years older than the members they support. This helps maintain appropriate boundaries, ensures developmental perspective, and supports a healthy mentor–mentee dynamic. We especially need volunteer guides age 27+ to work with members ages 23–29.

If you’re 25–29, you may still be navigating many of the same transitions as our members and are welcome to participate in a crew as a member while serving as a guide for another crew.

The time commitment for a Crew Guide is about 1.5–2 hours per week. However, the real value of this role comes from showing up consistently over time (mentor relationships need some time to grow), so we’re looking for guides who are excited to stay with their crew for multiple semesters or years.

    What You’ll Gain

    • Hands-on experience in mentorship, facilitation, and leadership development
    • A supportive network of guides, educators, and industry professionals
    • Opportunities to get involved in events, trips, and national programs
    • The chance to make a lasting impact on students’ academic and career trajectories

    Training & Support

    All Crew Guides receive:

    • Initial onboarding and training
    • Annual wellbeing and safety training
    • Ongoing support from Hub and national leadership
    • Access to structured tools, frameworks, and mentorship resources

    About EGD Collective

The EGD Collective is a nonprofit leadership development community supporting ~2,500 students annually across 26+ universities. Our mission is to help every student finish their education and find their place in games, creative industries, and beyond.

    We focus on:

    • leadership through real-world practice
    • community-driven learning
    • supporting students at risk of isolation, burnout, or dropout
    • equity in both higher education and the games industry

Crew Guides are the backbone of this work creating the environments where emerging adults grow into leaders.
