    About Relief for Children

Relief for Children (RfC) is a child-focused, community-based nonprofit dedicated to improving the well-being, protection, and opportunities of children in Ghana. We work in partnership with local communities and global supporters to deliver education, health, and empowerment programs that create lasting impact.

As RfC grows, strong financial systems are essential to ensuring that every dollar entrusted to us is managed responsibly and directed toward meaningful impact. The Director of Finance will play a key leadership role in building the financial infrastructure, controls, reporting practices, and planning processes that support our sustainable growth.

This is an opportunity for an experienced finance professional to shape the financial foundation of a growing international nonprofit, work alongside organizational and Board leaders, and apply their expertise in direct support of children and communities.

    The Role

The Director of Finance sits at the intersection of finance, programs, fundraising, operations, and organizational strategy. You'll partner closely with RfC's Executive Director, Chief Operating Officer, Board Treasurer, program leaders, and fellow directors to ensure our financial decisions support both immediate priorities and long-term sustainability.

The goal is to help RfC use financial information to make better decisions and build a stronger organization.

    What You'll Do

    • Strengthen the financial systems and practices that support organizational growth
    • Develop annual budgets and financial forecasts that connect resources to mission priorities
    • Create clear, reliable financial reporting for organizational leadership and the Board
    • Strengthen cash-flow planning, financial controls, and risk-management practices
    • Build processes for tracking grants, donor-restricted funds, and program expenses
    • Help prepare RfC for audits, donor reviews, and nonprofit compliance requirements
    • Develop practical financial policies and procedures that support transparency and accountability
    • Provide financial insight to guide decisions on programs, fundraising, partnerships, and expansion
    • Build financial knowledge and confidence across the organization through guidance, tools, and training

    Who We're Looking For

We're seeking a finance professional who wants to use their experience for meaningful social impact. You may be a strong fit if you have experience in areas such as:

    • Financial management, accounting, budgeting, or financial planning
    • Nonprofit finance or fund accounting
    • Financial analysis and reporting
    • Audit or compliance
    • Grant or donor financial management
    • Internal controls and financial policy development
    • Financial operations or controllership

Nonprofit finance experience is highly valued, but experienced finance professionals from any sector who are eager to contribute their expertise to a mission-driven organization are encouraged to apply.

    What You'll Gain

This role offers more than a traditional volunteer experience. As Director of Finance, you'll have the opportunity to:

    • Help shape the financial strategy of a growing international nonprofit
    • Build systems and processes with visible, organization-wide impact
    • Gain or deepen nonprofit and international development leadership experience
    • Work directly with executive and Board leadership
    • Apply your expertise to real challenges in growth, sustainability, grants, and resource allocation
    • Develop experience that strengthens a portfolio, board profile, or nonprofit leadership trajectory
    • See firsthand how strong financial stewardship expands opportunities for children and communities

    Commitment

This is a part-time unpaid volunteer leadership position for an experienced professional who can provide consistent strategic guidance while collaborating with other RfC leaders and volunteers. Responsibilities include participation in periodic leadership and finance meetings, review of key financial materials, and focused work on priority initiatives, including budgeting, reporting, controls, compliance, and financial planning. Activity levels may increase during major budgeting, reporting, audit, or planning periods.

    Make Your Expertise Matter

Strong programs require strong organizations behind them. As RfC's Director of Finance, you'll help ensure we have the financial foundation, transparency, and discipline needed to grow responsibly and expand our impact.

If you're looking to use your financial expertise, take on meaningful nonprofit leadership experience, and help create greater opportunities for youth, we'd love to hear from you.
