Volunteers needed for weekly visits in Grand Prairie, to offer companionship and socialization at patient's home. Will need to be comfortable going to home and being able to visit when caregiver leaves to run errands or for appointments.
Volunteers do not hands on work, they are expected to conversate, site bedside if needed for conversation with patient and/or family. Some patients like to talk a lot, and visits may be about an hour or more, but expect to spend about an hour weekly, unless authorized by the volunteer for longer (if appts are needed). There is not transport of patient or family, there is not changing of money for shopping or errands. Volunteering is not
Volunteers can do crafts, hold conversations, play games, work puzzles; let the patient guide your activity level. Some patients are very conversational and just want someone they can talk with, someone to show photos, and maybe do something no one else will do with them (take outside and see the sunshine, push them in a wheelchair for a walk, listen to music). Each patient is different, some would like you to read to them, or play a book on tape. You will build that relationship as you continue to visit.
