Hospice Pet Companion Volunteer (AZ)

The pet therapy volunteer is a member of the interdisciplinary team with a desire to support patients and families in the Hospice program through visits with their therapy animals. Pet visitation takes place in patients' homes, nursing homes, and assisted living facilities.

Qualifications: We welcome all animals/pets for therapy including cats, dogs, pigs, miniature horses, goats, chickens, and more! Animals must be well-behaved, friendly, and up-to-date on all necessary vaccines.

Time Commitment:There is no minimum number of hours to volunteer, OnCare is happy to utilize whatever you are able to commit. Direct patient care is typically a 1-2 hour commitment per week in order to successfully build rapport with the patient and their family. Timing is flexible. We can utilize volunteers any time of day or night, during the week, on weekends and on holidays.

Educational/Professional: Successful completion of 7 hour online OnCare volunteer training. Training is web-based and done at your own pace. After completion of the online training, volunteers will complete visits with the Volunteer Coordinator until they feel comfortable performing visits
