Role Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator to join our team in an unpaid capacity. As our Volunteer Coordinator, you’ll play a critical role in building, supporting, and growing our vibrant community of volunteers and coaches—currently numbering between 20 and 30. We welcome people of all backgrounds, experiences, and demographics, as long as they bring a commitment to our shared mission and are willing to work at least six hours per week for a minimum of six months.
Your role sits at the heart of our organization. You’ll work side-by-side with our President, Founder, and Head Invention Coach (CEO), not only to recruit and vet high-quality volunteers and Coaches, but also to ensure that every volunteer and Coach—whether they ultimately join us or not—has a positive experience.
What You’ll Do
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement creative and effective volunteer recruitment strategies to attract a diverse and dedicated group of volunteers, mentors, coaches, and potential board members.
- Develop and execute a robust vetting process to ensure engagement volunteers are aligned with our commitment requirements and organizational values.
- Foster quality mentorship between coaches and inventors, helping to facilitate smooth transitions, minimize turnover, and support professional growth for volunteers at all stages.
- Work closely with leadership (President and Founder) to cultivate a collaborative, productive, and interested environment across teams.
- Support internal and external events, including Virtual inventors gathering, recruitment fairs, volunteer meetups, and community outreach initiatives.
- Identify relevant events and opportunities for organizational participation and volunteer engagement.
- Liaise with universities and external partners to build a strong pipeline of engaged volunteers and potential collaborators.
- Manage and update website content related to volunteer opportunities.
- Track interviews to monitor volunteer engagement, satisfaction, and turnover, and provide reports to leadership.
- Using Github to track project status and task management
What You Bring
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience recruiting volunteers, mentors, coaches, and/or board members.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coordinate events and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with website management and content updates (no advanced technical skills required, but confidence navigating digital tools is a must).
- Creative and proactive approach to identifying and pursuing recruitment and engagement opportunities.
- Comfortable with outreach, networking, and representing the organization at public events and within university communities.
- Ability to design and track volunteer performance, engagement, and turnover.
- Excellent English communication skills—both written and verbal—and a collaborative spirit.
- Passion for working with people from all walks of life and a genuine interest in improving organizational health, human factors, and creating a supportive work environment.
- Resourcefulness, adaptability, and a willingness to take initiative.
- Prior experience in human resources, nonprofit administration, or organizational development is a plus, but not required.
