ONG (Setor Social)
Social Media Assistant Volunteer
Detalhes
Descrição
Voices for the Animals (VFTA) is a nonprofit animal advocacy organization with a growing presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X. We are also in production on two short documentary films — one exposing the lies zoos tell about animal care, including the case of Billy the elephant at the LA Zoo, and one educational film on elephants in the wild versus captivity. We need help keeping our social channels active, creative, and growing.
This is a support role working directly under Chuck, VFTA's social media lead. You won't be running strategy solo — you'll be pitching ideas, drafting captions, scheduling posts, and sourcing shareable content so Chuck can focus on the bigger picture. It's a collaborative, learn-as-you-go role that gives you real hands-on social media experience for a cause that matters.
What You'll Do
- Schedule and publish posts across VFTA's Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X accounts
- Brainstorm and pitch fresh content ideas each week — animal welfare facts, awareness days, film updates, behind-the-scenes moments, and trending topics relevant to VFTA's mission
- Draft caption copy for posts, adapting tone for each platform
- Source shareable content — relevant articles, wildlife videos, news stories, and advocacy campaigns to supplement original posts
- Help maintain a simple content calendar so posts are planned ahead and nothing falls through the cracks
- Monitor comments and flag anything needing Chuck's attention — questions, press inquiries, or engagement opportunities
- Assist with formatting and uploading video content to YouTube and repurposing clips for Reels and Shorts
Skills & Experience
- Active, regular user of Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X — you understand how each platform feels and what works on each
- Good writer — clear, friendly, and concise; able to adapt your voice to match VFTA's tone
- Creative and full of ideas — you notice things worth posting and don't need to be told what's interesting
- Reliable and consistent — the biggest asset in this role is showing up every week and keeping things moving
- Familiarity with Canva or scheduling tools (Buffer, Later, Meta Business Suite) a plus — we can train the right person
- Passion for animals, wildlife, or advocacy causes strongly preferred
What You'll Gain
- Hands-on social media experience across five major platforms — real accounts, real audience, real results
- A working portfolio of published posts and campaigns with actual engagement metrics behind them
- Direct mentorship from Chuck, VFTA's social media lead
- Experience contributing to a documentary film launch campaign as VFTA's films move toward release
- Social media assistant credit on VFTA's website and organizational acknowledgements
- A letter of recommendation from VFTA leadership upon completion of a successful volunteer term
Your Impact Every post that gets shared, every new follower who discovers VFTA, every person who learns the truth about zoo conditions or the lives of wild elephants — that starts with consistent, creative social media. You are helping build the audience for films and advocacy that can genuinely change how people think about animals in captivity.
To apply: Submit a brief note telling us which social media platforms you use most and what draws you to VFTA's mission. A resume is welcome but not required — links to accounts or content you've helped manage tell us much more. Applications reviewed on a rolling basis.

We'd love to see examples of social media accounts or content you've contributed to — personal, school, a club, a business, anything. Links are more useful to us than a resume. If you don't have examples yet, that's okay — just tell us why you want to do this and what you'd bring to it. We'll be in touch within two weeks.
