Volunteer Editors Needed to Help Refugees Share Their Stories - Remote

Are you a writer, editor, journalist (or aspiring one) looking to use your skills for real-world impact? Join 1000 Dreams, a global storytelling initiative by nonprofit Witness Change, and help refugee storytellers shape and share their own powerful narratives.

We’re seeking volunteer editors to help turn translated interview transcripts into short, compelling captions (around 1,000 characters each) that can be published online and on social media. These stories - first-person accounts of hope, displacement, survival, and dreams - are all authored and photographed by refugees themselves. Your role is to help refine their voice, not replace it.

What You’ll Do

• Edit translated transcripts of refugee interviews into short, engaging captions
• Collaborate with a remote editorial team and follow a clear style guide
• Honor the voice of each storyteller and approach sensitive content with care
• Dedicate approximately 3–4 hours per week for 3 months (flexible)

***Please note: Many of these stories contain references to traumatic experiences, including violence, persecution, and loss. This work requires emotional maturity and sensitivity.
