VOLUNTEER Wordpress Developers for World's Best Wildlife Emergency App (this is NOT a paid position)

Animal Help Now (www.AHNow.org) is seeking an experienced WordPress developer to help build the next generation of our flagship app’s frontend. We’re rebuilding our web presence with a custom theme and carefully structured data model, using WordPress as both a flexible CMS and an API-driven backend. The foundation is in place, we’re looking for support as we bring the user interface to life.

As a volunteer, you’ll collaborate with a small, dedicated tech team of long-term contributors passionate about wildlife rescue, public safety, and ethical co-existence. AHNow serves people across the U.S. with wildlife emergency and humane conflict resolution services, receiving hundreds of requests for help every day. This is a high-impact opportunity to apply your skills toward a meaningful, deeply practical mission.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in building the new WordPress frontend for www.AHNow.org, replacing the current PHP/HTML version
• Work within a custom theme architecture
• Help implement and refine user-facing features, including role-based account access and frontend forms
• Collaborate with the tech team to troubleshoot and solve implementation challenges

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in HTML, CSS/SCSS, and vanilla JavaScript
• Experience building custom WordPress themes (especially using ACF, custom post types, and REST APIs)
• Familiarity with PHP and Timber/Twig
• Experience using Yarn/NPM and Webpack build tools and Git-based workflows
• Ability to work asynchronously and communicate clearly in a collaborative volunteer environment
• Interest in animal protection, wildlife rescue, or values-driven tech a bonus
