    Descrição

    Sound Generations Board of Directors

Sound Generations is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to partner with older adults in King County, providing accessible, inclusive services so they can age their way. Since 1967, Sound Generations has supported tens of thousands of seniors and their caregivers each year through community connections and essential services.

    Our impact:

    • Food Security — Meals on Wheels and mobile markets deliver nutritious meals, friendly visits, and household staples to over 2,900 homebound elders.
    • Transportation — Hyde Shuttle and volunteer transportation programs provide more than 55,000 rides annually to over 1,300 individuals, connecting them to medical appointments, meal programs, senior centers, and other essential destinations.
    • Health and Wellness — Enhanced fitness classes serve over 5,700 individuals, supporting balance, pain management, and mental health.
    • Assistance Services — Minor home repair delivers over 1,000 repairs a year, keeping seniors safe in their homes. Pathways Information & Assistance and Caregiver Support programs help more than 1,000 individuals navigate local resources, understand their legal rights, and select health insurance.

King County's population of adults over 65 grew 36% between 2015 and 2024, reaching an estimated 344,000 residents — about 14% of the county — with the fastest growth still ahead as the Baby Boomer generation fully enters retirement age by 2030. This demographic shift makes Sound Generations' work more urgent than ever — and demands a board equipped to lead through it.

    The Opportunity

Sound Generations is seeking accomplished leaders to help guide the organization through a pivotal period of growth and increasing community need. This is a strategic leadership opportunity for executives who want to apply their expertise to one of the region's most consequential challenges: ensuring King County's rapidly growing senior population can age with dignity and independence.

We are looking for mission-aligned individuals who have held senior leadership roles at organizations of comparable scale and complexity ($20M+ in annual revenue). Ideal candidates bring strong strategic thinking, collaboration, and communication skills, a genuine commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following:

    • Organizational leadership
    • Strategy development and execution
    • Board governance
    • Financial management
    • Fundraising

    Board Responsibilities

Board members provide strategic oversight and governance, working in partnership with the CEO and staff leadership to advance the organization's mission. Specific responsibilities include:

    • CEO Evaluation — Under the direction of the Board Chair, define annual performance criteria, success metrics, and bonus structure for the CEO, and conduct the annual evaluation.
    • Strategic Oversight — Guide organizational strategy and monitor its implementation.
    • Fiscal Oversight — Review and approve the annual budget and any major expenditures as defined in the Bylaws.
    • Meeting Participation — Attend and actively engage in at least 80% (5 of 6) of Board meetings each year.
    • Committee Service — Serve actively on at least one committee (e.g., Governance, Finance, Fundraising).
    • Event Engagement — Attend at least two of our three signature fundraising events (Inspiring Positive Aging Awards, Game On, or the Gala), with consideration given to sponsoring a table at one.
    • Philanthropic Support — Make a personal financial contribution toward the Annual Board Fundraising Goal.
    • Program Immersion — Participate in at least one program event or activity (e.g., an All-Staff Meeting, a Meals on Wheels ride-along, a Senior Center visit, or a Community Dining lunch).
    • Community Advocacy — Serve as an ambassador for Sound Generations in the community, including participation in advocacy efforts such as Senior Lobby Day.
