About Petaluma Urban Chat
Petaluma Urban Chat is a community organization dedicated to advancing thoughtful, people-centered urbanism in Petaluma — from walkability and housing to public space and civic engagement. We bring together residents, volunteers, elected officials, and urbanism enthusiasts who want to see Petaluma grow into a more connected, vibrant, and livable city.
The Opportunity
We're looking for a volunteer Treasurer to help keep Petaluma Urban Chat's finances organized, transparent, and on track. This is a foundational role for our organization — you'll be the person who makes sure we always know where we stand financially, so the board and team can make good decisions and stay accountable to our members and donors.
This is a great fit for someone who's comfortable with basic bookkeeping and has a good head for numbers. You don't need an accounting degree or professional finance background — just reliability, attention to detail, and a willingness to keep things current.
What You'll Do
- Track income and expenses, keeping the books current and accurate
- Pay vendors and process reimbursement requests in a timely manner
- Prepare simple, easy-to-understand financial summaries for the board and team
- Help with light budgeting and financial planning as the organization grows
- Keep on top of filing and reporting needs, so we stay in good standing
What We're Looking For
- Comfortable with basic bookkeeping (tracking transactions, reconciling accounts, organizing records)
- A good head for numbers — no accounting degree or professional certification required
- Reliable and detail-oriented, with a habit of keeping things current rather than letting them pile up
- Comfortable working independently and communicating clearly and asynchronously with the board
- Interest in local civic engagement, urbanism, or community organizing is a plus
